Celebrate 50th birthday

FROM LARRY PEOPLES, SR:

Celebrating our Collective 50th Birthdays!

My idea is to have a reunion in Orlando on 11/11/2011 (11/11/11) which is on a Friday and go to Disney World on Saturday and/or Sunday. Quite possibly an event rate can be given by a hotel (and maybe Disney too) in Orlando (My suggestion: www.sheratonsafari.com) with a deadline for reservations there set by the hotel. Anyone else missing the deadline would have to stay at another hotel.

This would be heavy on participant effort because no committee coordination would be needed except to secure the group rate and set a time and place for the reunion (e.g., Friday night at the hotel of choice).

Orlando is also a Major Intl. Airport and would be convenient for people flying in and out for the reunion.

Just an acorn of an idea that may grow on everyone.

Larry Peoples, Sr.

Dear Classmates: Have just submitted an RFP (Request For Proposal) to Sheraton Safari in Orlando for an informal buffet and gathering on Friday Night 11/11/11 with Disney on Saturday Morning 11/12/11. Since most of us will probably be with our family members - alcohol won't be served in the dining room Friday Night. There is a bar on site for those who wish to imbibe. Will keep you informed of my progress.

Thx!
Barb

You want the 'floppy hat' pic? I can set that up pretty easy for you! :-D

Actually, what you want to do is go to your photos and set one of them as your "master photo". When you do that, it should show your Master Photo on any posts, rather than your senior photo.

Let me know if you need any assistance and I'll see what I can do.

Thx!

I spoke to the representative of the Sheraton Safari in Orlando yesterday morning. She gave me all kinds of options for this event.

She said that we could get a reduced room rate for this event. I’m going to see if I can get $79 a night for Class of ’79. I was thinking that folks could stay there Friday night and Saturday night with checkout Sunday Morning - but that will be up to the individual family.

For a plated dinner it is about $25.00 a head. For a buffet on Friday night it is also about $25.00 a head. She said including the rental of the banquet room, taxes and gratuities it would come to about $32.50 a head. This is based on about 30 class members + family for about 100 people. Now of course there may be more people coming, so the rate will go up of course.

Disney will be Saturday. They have shuttles to and from Disney, so transportation will not be a problem. They also sell Disney tickets there at the hotel so maybe they will give us a good rate.

My Wife, Son and I are going down to Sea World in January and we will stay at this hotel. I will again talk to the Sheraton representative and she will take me on a tour of the place.

I will post again when I have more news.

Since I have received no responses or interest, I have dropped the idea. I will now be taking my wife on a cruise for our anniversary during that time frame. We were married on the 9th of November.

Larry:

If you want, I can email the Class of '79 with the information you've provided. I think the lack of response isn't from people not caring, but rather that people aren't subscribed to the discussion.

Let me know if you want me to send an email to CO'79 with the info (then give it a week or two to decide), or if you've already made your decision.

Thx!
