Comments:

Unbelievable that I am retired.

After the military, I lived in Haines City (Fla.), Gainesville (I was a reporter for the Gainesville Sun), Jacksonville (worked at UNF) and Ocala. I've been here in Ocala for 28 years.

Apparently, I am a legend... read about it here:

Even now these many years later, it is hard to contemplate the senseless and needless tragedy that claimed Valerie. My heart breaks for her and for Jerry and Kendall. Valerie is laid to rest near my grandparents and on those ocassions when I bring flowers to the cemetery, I always stop to offer a silent prayer for her.

Hi Paul,

Glad to know that you thrive and survive. I will be joining you in retirement in a scant two years. Hardly seems possible.

It is true that Ricky was larger than life. He was so "real." While he was a year ahead of me, I knew him best from catechism at St. William Catholic Church. Sad to say that there are so many of our classmates who are gone. My parents and grandparents are there and I put flowers on their graves a couple of times per year. I always stop and ‘visit’ Ricky, Kenny Sumter and Valerie Turner. Now I have added Jack Funderburk to my ‘prayer rounds.’ It always leaves me with a heavy feeling.

As a basketball buddy, you will love this: my wife got me a portable basketball goal for my 60th B-day. She said I was starting to spend too much time indoors.

Take care and if you're ever passing through Ocala, look me up.

All the best, TB

Hi Stephanie,
Happy (belated) birthday. Just remember... we're not turning 60... we're becoming sexagenarians!

HEY DAN-O

Happy birthday. Time to start collecting Social Security.

All is well here in the motherland... hot and nasty the way you remember it and the way we all like it.

Don't be a stranger. Life wouldn't be the same if I wasn't always on guard to fend off your verbal jabs.

All the best to you,

Tony Burke

Hey Rusty,

I went through school with Kenny from 2nd grade on. He was a good guy, a stand up guy with a pretty good sense of humor. He is buried not too far from my grandparents. I visit the cemetery once or twice a year and I always make it a point to go by Kenny's grave and offer a prayer. TB
